Exciting news for bricklayers in Alberta!
The Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 1 Alberta and the BTA brought Alberta’s Advanced Education Minister Rajan Sawhney on a tour through their soon-to-be new building. This massive unit will serve as one of two International Masonry Institute (IMI) training facilities in all of Canada. Bricklayers from across our province will receive quality training in a safe environment offered by Local 1.
Ken Coghill, Business Manager for Local 1 and the BTA’s Rob Calver discussed with Minister Sawhney about how we can partner with YourAlberta (Government of Alberta) to make this IMI training centre the best it can be.
Thank you to Ken and the Local 1 team for all of their work on this initiative. Thank you as well to Minister Sawhney coming out to see the great potential of this facility. This will be a huge step forward for the bricklaying trade in Alberta.

Working together to build a better future for our province.
