Women in the skilled trades are helping shape the future of our industry, and Local 1 is committed to ensuring they have the opportunity to succeed.
We are dedicated to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and supportive environment where every member can build a rewarding career. Through collective bargaining, all Local 1 members receive fair wages, safe working conditions, comprehensive health benefits, and a secure pension.
We also recognize that increasing the participation of women in trades takes more than equal access, it requires mentorship, support, and a culture where everyone feels they belong. Local 1 is proud to support women as they build successful careers and strengthen our industry.

Fun FactIn Canada, women represent only 4% of the construction trade workforce. In other skilled trades, that number is even smaller. In Alberta, women currently make up almost 8% of the members of Building trades of Alberta’s affiliated trade unions. That speaks to the success of Building trades of Alberta’s ongoing efforts to bring women into the building trades. |
