Registration is now OPEN.
As of February 2026, IMI Alberta - Edmonton Training Centre now has government approval as an accredited technical training provider for ALL THREE LEVELS of the Bricklayer trade in the province of Alberta.
IMI Alberta utilizes the approved Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) curriculum that aligns with existing training in the province to ensure continuity and success for both existing and future apprentices.

2026/27 Academic Year Class Dates |
Period 3 (3rd Year): October 19 - December 11, 2026. Period 2 (2nd Year): January 11 - March 5, 2027. Period 1 (1st Year): March 15 - May 7, 2027. Classes will be held Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 3:00pm (6 hours of instruction per day). |

Program Length |
The Alberta Bricklayer apprenticeship program consists of three (3) periods of training (1st, 2nd, and 3rd year apprenticeship levels). Each period requires apprentices to complete 1540 hours of on the job work experience, as well as 240 hours of technical training. Technical training is delivered in 8-week blocks for each class. |

Who Should Attend |
All registered bricklayer apprentices in the province of Alberta. Our apprenticeship program is open to everyone. We welcome anyone who has both interest and passion for the masonry trade, and we look forward to helping you in your trowel trades education on a path to a great career. |

Safety and Equipment Certifications |
Safety and equipment certification classes will be held at IMI Alberta in 2027. Courses offered quarterly will include Fall Protection, H2S Alive, Confined Space Entry, Standard First Aid, Common Safety Orientation, Forklift/Telehandler Operator, Skid Steer Operator, Aerial Work Platform, and Quantitative Fit Test. Courses offered annually will include Leadership for Safety Excellence and Better Supervision training. Dates for safety and equipment certifications will be announced prior to January 2027. |

Job Readiness |
Introductory training for the bricklayer trade in preparation for employment in the masonry industry. Limited number of seats available. Class seats are competitive. Resume submission, interview, and entrance exam requirements are in place for candidate selection. Course dates are May 10 - June 30, 2027. Classes will be held Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 3:00pm (6 hours of instruction per day). |

Refractory Gunite Training - Level 1 |
Introductory gunite training for refractory bricklayers. Class seats open to BAC Local 1 Alberta union members only. Union members must be in good standing to attending training. Dates for Refractory Gunite Training Level 1 will be announced prior to January 2027. |

Refractory Gunite Training - Level 2 |
Advanced gunite training for refractory bricklayers. Class seats open to BAC Local 1 Alberta union members only. Union members must be in good standing to attending training. Dates for Refractory Gunite Training Level 2 will be announced prior to January 2027. |
